Tournaments within the club are held on a regular basis throughout the year, and are open to all JITC members. These are usually held in the club session mornings, and are often followed by lunch, either on our club terrace, located in front of the courts, or at a local restaurant.
One of our main club events is the Kees Memorial Tournament held in November, which is named after a founder member, who still played into his eighties. The trophy for this tournament is the racquet used by Kees, which is presented by his daughter to the winner of the tournament.
Local tournaments with other clubs are also organised when the opportunity arises. This gives our members the opportunity to meet & visit with other clubs in the area, and mix socially, often including refreshments or lunch afterward. These friendly events are intended as fun, and the participants are made-up from our non-league players, who can indicate their preference to play by placing their name on the list once a fixture date has been advised. Formats vary from mixed doubles pairs, to timed games.
The club Championships are held every year during May and September.

Ted’s Tie-Break Tournament: 17th January 2010
|
|
Our New Year calendar started with our first tournament finally getting under way after having to be rescheduled due to the recent bad weather. This tournament consisted of 2 tie-break rounds, hence the title of the tournament being ‘Ted’s Tie-Break’, also in keeping with the games being organised by our club games organiser, Ted Floodgate. The nature of the games being played on a tie-break basis kept us all alert with score-keeping and changing of ends.
The final result was very close, with joint Ladies winners of Roz Shepherd & Maimie Noon on 64 points, with 2nd place Beth Cocks only 1 point behind on 62. 1st place Mens winner was John Hudson with 68 out of a possible 70, closely followed by 2nd place Simon Poot with 67.
As is usual for a Sunday, the games were followed by a picnic lunch, where once again we had a terrific selection of cold buffet to choose from, and on a day when the weather was particularly balmy, it was much appreciated by everyone.
